Sonja Micocci, LMFT
We all have our own unique path to healing, and I have a calling and a continued passion to walk along side each of my clients, with a sense of curiosity and compassion, to assist them in awakening to a brighter, safer, healthier reality for themselves.
Over the years I have worked in several non-profits, working to serve disenfranchised adults, youth and families. I have served a diverse population facing a wide range of issues, from depression and anxiety to complex trauma. I have also worked in substance abuse recovery for many years. In 2009 my passion for this work took me to South Africa, to work with adults and children struggling with issues related to the AIDS crisis. I have also worked as a Wilderness Therapist, and have been in private practice for many years, working with individuals, couples and families. While the work I have done has been valuable to the people I served, it has also been a catalyst of growth for me, deepening my understanding of the complexities we face in our lives, and how our environment impacts our emotional and mental health.
Following my Graduate Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy, I continued my education by gaining extensive training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Mindfulness, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, or “Tapping”), among various other modalities including Systems Therapy, and Narrative therapy. I have an eclectic approach to my work, as my clients come with their own story and needs. I have found that one size does not fit all, and because I have many tools in my toolbox I can meet the specific needs of my clients.
Currently, I am working on becoming a Certified Tapping the Matrix Practitioner, which involves regular consultation and supervision. I am also Engaged in an intensive training through the Trauma Research Foundation’s Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies where I am studying with the well-known trauma expert Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. He is well-known for the New York Times Best Seller, ‘The Body Keeps the Score’, which has transformed trauma treatment. After completing this training I will be certified through his Foundation as a Trauma Specialist. For more information regarding the Trauma Research Foundation you can visit them at:
Along with providing therapeutic services, I also offer clinical supervision as I really enjoy the process of assisting practitioners on their professional path. I have many years of experience providing services, supervising and consultation.
I look forward to hearing from you, and starting the creative process that I believe therapy is, with you. While it can be very hard to face our pain and challenges, the rewards are endless. We can shift our lives from pain and suffering, to wisdom and joy. I look forward to working with you and unlocking the code to your potential.
